Congratulations to Jeep and its "Groundhog Day" spot for being this year's SpotBowl 17 champion and thanks to all of the ad fans who voted in this year's poll!
While America voted, the team at Pavone Marketing Group tracked the social media action and Anheuser-Busch was the clear winner with a 47 percent increase in online conversations during and after the Big Game.
The game’s exclusive beer sponsor will be back and will be the night’s biggest spender, with four 60-second ads. The spots will include a humorous ad for Bud Light and Bud Light Seltzer and an ad for Budweiser that celebrates “typical Americans” going above and beyond. The Bud Light Seltzer ad will star Post Malone and will feature characters in his brain controlling his actions while he ponders a Bud Light Seltzer. The ad for Michelob’s organic beer, Pure Gold, will promote organic farming. An ad for Michelob ULTRA will star Jimmy Fallon and John Cena and show Fallon struggling to get in shape.
The car maker will return with its 11th appearance on advertising’s biggest stage with an environmentally conscious ad focused on its electric e-tron Sportback. The spot will feature “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams driving an Audi and singing the “Frozen” hit, “Let it Go.”
For the sixth year in a row, Avocados From Mexico will use the game to “celebrate the American avocado obsession.” The spot stars ‘80s teen movie queen Molly Ringwald as a Home Shopping Network-style assistant peddling various products designed to pamper your avocado.
The Frito-Lay brand will have its first Big Game appearance in 11 years, after making its debut in 2009. The spot shows a man getting out of a variety of tasks because of his cheese-dusted fingers while MC Hammer pops up to remind him that “U Can’t Touch This.”
Coca-Cola sat out last year’s game (buying a pre-game spot instead) but will return to the in-game line-up in 2020. In the ad, Jonah Hill summons the energy to meet Martin Scorcese at a party by drinking a Coke Energy.
The credit card will return to the game for the first time since 2014 with a pair of 15-second ads. The ads will feature clips from TV shows and movies, showing actors saying “yes” (in a spot highlighting how widely accepted the card is) and “no” (in a spot promoting no annual fees).
The perennial Big Game star will suit up with a spot featuring Lil Nas X and his mega-hit, “Old Town Road.” In the ad, Lil Nas X faces off in a Wild West dance-off with grizzled and gravelly voiced actor Sam Elliott.
The social media giant will make its big game debut with a spot starring Sylvester Stallone and Chris Rock. Footage leaked by Stallone on Instagram shows him recreating the iconic scene in “Rocky,” in which he runs up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The spot will promote Facebook’s Groups feature, an aspect of Facebook that offers a more intimate social network based on shared interests.
The hotel and casino chain will reinforce its exposure as the namesake of the game location (Hard Rock Stadium in Miami) with its first-ever big game ad. The spot was directed by action and explosions aficionado Michael Bay and was filmed at Hard Rock’s new guitar-shaped hotel and casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Hyundai’s 60-second spot features a bevy of Boston-based celebrities, including Rachel Dratch, Chris Evans, John Krasinski and Red Sox legend David Ortiz. In it, Krasinski shows off his new Hyundai Sonata’s “smaht pahk” feature.
Kia will make its 11th consecutive appearance in the big game. The ad will spotlight youth homelessness, with Kia donating $1,000 for every yard gained during the game to charities supporting the cause.
The nation’s #3 pizza chain will make its big game debut with a spot starring Rainn Wilson (best known as Dwight Schrute from “The Office”). The commercial will highlight Little Caesars’ new delivery service.
MTN DEW will return to the game after spending last year on the sidelines. The ad will highlight the brand’s new MTN DEW Zero Sugar. The spot stars Bryan Cranston and Tracee Ellis Ross in a recreation of the iconic “Heeeeere’s Johnny!” scene from the “The Shining.”
The league’s spot will tackle the topic of police shootings of young black men and will promote the NFL’s “Inspire Change” program. The ad stars retired NFL receiver Anquan Boldin, sharing the story of his cousin, who was killed by a police officer in 2015.
Olay made its debut on the big game stage last year with a horror-themed spot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. This year’s ad will be space-themed (inspired by last year’s all-female spacewalk) and will feature an all-female cast, including Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh, actresses Busy Philipps and Taraji P. Henson, astronaut Nicole Stott and journalist Katie Couric.
Mr. Peanut will return in 2020 in a spot also starring “Veep” star Matt Walsh. A teaser shows Walsh and Mr. Peanut dangling from a tree branch over a cliff after crashing the NUTmobile. Before the branch breaks, Mr. Peanut lets go in order to save his friends — seemingly plunging to his death.
The breakfast staple will make its first-ever appearance in the game, with a spot airing immediately before the two-minute warning in the second quarter. The ad will star “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness and will showcase the new pretzel-flavored Pop-Tarts.
The sports car brand will make its first big game appearance since 1997, with an ad for its first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan. The spot will feature a high-speed chase, with a variety of Porsches, after a thief steals the Taycan from a Porsche museum.
No details are known about the ad for President Trump’s reelection campaign. This spot and that of Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg will be the first national big game ads by political candidates.
Procter & Gamble’s late-game ad will feature seven of its brands, including Bounty, Charmin, Old Spice, Febreze, Mr. Clean, Olay and Head & Shoulders. Stars from the pre-game teaser include Rob Riggle, Busy Philipps, the Charmin bear, Isaiah Mustafa, Troy Polamalu and Sofia Vergara. The ad will also make history by letting consumers decide how Vergara and her guests clean up a mess that occurs during a big game party. Consumers will make suggestions via an interactive website the week before the game, and the most popular suggestion will become the final big game ad.
The hummus brand will make its big game debut. Radar Online reported that “The Real Housewives” stars Teresa Giudice and Caroline Manzo were teaming up for a commercial for a hummus brand. The ad is expected to announce the winners of Sabra’s “Dip. Watch. Win.” sweepstakes, which includes five $100,000 winners.
After sitting out the past two games, Snickers will return with a spot that promises to help fix the world’s many problems. Taking a cue from its “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, the spot feeds the world a Snickers by dropping a giant Snickers bar into a hole in the Earth.
The at-home soda machine brand will return to the game for the first time since 2014. The ad will highlight the product’s ability to help the environment by eliminating single-use plastic and will star celebrity scientist Bill Nye. A teaser for the spot features Nye speculating about humans exploring Mars.
The spot will continue the tax preparation software maker’s “All People Are Tax People” campaign, which shows that taxes aren’t that difficult, compared to other more difficult things that people face each day.
The car floor mat maker’s ad will tell the story of cancer survivor Scout — the dog who starred in the company’s 2019 Big Game ad. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to pet-friendly charities via a page on the WeatherTech website.
