Offering up a mixture of humor, Shyamalan-esque twists, surprise cameos, and unexpected results, here are five of our favorite spots from the SpotBowl era (2004-present) that hoodwinked their way into our memory.
5. That Time Liam Neeson Played Clash of Clans (2015)
Channeling his character from Taken, AngryNeeson52 lives up to his name in this ad for the popular mobile game. His unexpected appearance and fear inducing monologue culminated in the ad leading Youtube’s list of the top trending gaming videos of 2015.
4. When Every Ad Became a Tide Ad – 2018
It’s a bird! It’s a Plane! It’s… a Tide ad? From the moment Tide appeared in the 1st quarter commercial break, it was clear they were on to something special. It’s a good thing too, considering they spent a reported $15 million on air-time alone.
3. An Ad So Good, It Should Have Been a Movie (2018)
In the weeks leading up to Super Bowl LII a number of trailers began circulating for a reboot of the classic film Crocodile Dundee. With a star studded cast including Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, and more, the movie appeared to be destined for success. That is of course, until it was revealed to all be an ad for Tourism Australia.
2. When Betty White* Got Tackled For a Snickers Ad – 2010

Launching the “You’re not you when you’re hungry campaign,” this ad delivered the ultimate twist when it was revealed to be a Snickers commercial.
